As we welcome December, we’re excited to share some upcoming activities in our classrooms. This month, scholars will focus on learning about Antarctica and its unique climate. They will learn about animals native to Antarctica, such as penguins, polar bears, and caribou, also known as reindeer.
Scholars will continue their study of letter names and sounds through songs and games. Weekly lessons in handwriting compliment the study of letters.
We encourage you to engage with your child’s learning at home through a few simple activities:
As winter approaches, take the opportunity to talk about the changing seasons and the weather that comes with winter. Notice the days are getting shorter, and it is dark early in the evenings. The First day of winter, December 21st, is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year. What kinds of clothes do you choose to stay warm in these days? Have you added a blanket to your bed to stay warm at night? These conversations build vocabulary and background knowledge which is key to future reading comprehension.
Finally, if you are able, involve your child in the Camp Pendleton Toy Drive by choosing a toy or item to donate, emphasizing kindness and community support.
In the Leader In Me program this December, our scholars are learning about setting goals and staying focused to achieve their goals. In class, they are setting a daily goal and building confidence in their ability to succeed.
As part of our cultural studies, our scholars are busy preparing for the highly anticipated Winter Spectacular! This year’s performance will center around the theme of Winter Holiday Traditions. It’s sure to be a memorable celebration of creativity, learning, and the beauty of winter.
Please be sure to mark your calendars for the big event: December 19th from 5:00–7:00 PM. You won’t want to miss this special performance as our scholars showcase their hard work and talents. We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate with us!
