November 2024

  • Exploring Knowledge: This Month’s Academic Journey

As we welcome November, we’re excited to share some upcoming activities in our classrooms. This month, scholars will focus on opinion writing, learning to express their thoughts and support their viewpoints with compelling arguments. They will practice using vivid adjectives to enhance their writing, allowing them to describe their opinions more clearly and engagingly. For example, instead of simply stating “I like apples,” they might say, “I enjoy crisp, juicy apples because they are delicious and refreshing.”

We’re participating in a Camp Pendleton Toy Drive, with more details to come from your child’s teacher on how to contribute. We invite parents to contact their child’s teacher for information on how to support a classroom booth at the Fall Festival. In honor of Veterans Day, our scholars will write thank you letters to veterans, expressing their gratitude for their service. Each classroom will also have a Gratitude Jar, where students can share what they’re thankful for, promoting reflection and positivity.

  • Home Learning Adventures: Montessori Style

We encourage you to engage with your child’s learning at home through a few simple activities. Start by having your child write a short opinion piece about their favorite book, movie, or topic, helping them express their thoughts and support their views.

Next, explore North America together by researching fun facts about its geography, culture, and wildlife. You can create a small project or poster to make learning interactive. To support our Gratitude Jar activity in class, consider starting a gratitude jar at home. Each day, ask your child to write down something they are thankful for and add it to the jar to promote positivity.

As Veterans Day approaches, discuss its importance and help your child write a thank you letter to a veteran in your community or a family member who has served. Finally, involve your child in the Camp Pendleton Toy Drive by choosing a toy or item to donate, emphasizing kindness and community support.

  • Leader in Me Program:

In the Leader In Me program this November, scholars are learning important skills to help them take charge of their education. They focus on "Determining Big Rocks" to identify their top goals, and "Planning Weekly" to create schedules that balance school and personal activities. They also learn "Getting and Staying Organized" to manage their materials and responsibilities. By mastering these skills, scholars enhance their academic performance and develop valuable life skills. We encourage parents to talk about these topics at home to support their child's learning.

  • Engage & Create: This Month’s Project

As part of our exciting journey into the study of continents, your child will receive a special passport booklet to use on our Continent Kick-Off Day. This interactive booklet will serve as a fun tool for them to document their learning as they explore each continent during the classroom tours.

On Continent Kick-Off Day, students will embark on an engaging tour of each Lower Elementary classroom, with each room themed around a different continent. Each classroom will feature a presentation by the teacher, who will share interesting facts and stories about a specific continent, enriching the students' understanding.

As they explore, students can fill out their passport booklets with key facts and drawings related to each continent. After this immersive experience, they will begin their focused study of North America. This will enhance their geographical knowledge and foster a sense of global awareness and appreciation for the diversity of our planet. We look forward to this educational adventure and the many discoveries that await!
