  • Exploring Knowledge: This Month’s Academic Journey

For the month of April, our scholars will embark on an exciting journey to explore the continent of Europe. Through hands-on activities, they will create maps and learn to identify key landmarks, flags, and landforms. They will also discover Europe’s wildlife, cultures, and traditions, helping them connect with the world around them in a meaningful way.

In writing, scholars will continue practicing the RARE and RACE strategies to strengthen their ability to support their ideas with evidence. Grade 3 scholars will focus on citing evidence from sources, a skill that will help them prepare for the upcoming CAASPP testing. The ELA Performance Task will begin on 4/22, giving them an opportunity to demonstrate their learning.

In Math, all scholars will focus on fractions, using hands-on materials to better understand this important concept and apply it to real-life situations.

In celebration of Earth Day, our scholars will learn about the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. They will also participate in the "Bella Green Team" initiative, where they will practice composting and contribute to our school’s sustainability efforts.

  • Home Learning Adventures: Montessori Style

As we explore the continent of Europe this month, parents can support their child’s learning by engaging in conversations about the geography, wildlife, and cultures of different European countries. Consider exploring books, documentaries, or even virtual tours that highlight landmarks and traditions. Encourage your child to share what they’ve learned and ask open-ended questions to deepen their curiosity and understanding.

In writing, you can reinforce the skills of RARE and RACE strategies by inviting your child to explain their thoughts and provide evidence to support their ideas during everyday conversations or while discussing a favorite topic. At home, create opportunities for them to practice citing sources, whether it’s from books, websites, or personal experiences.

For Math, you can support your child by involving them in practical activities that use fractions, such as cooking or measuring ingredients together. This helps them see how fractions are used in real-life situations and connects abstract concepts with everyday life.

To support our Earth Day focus on sustainability, families can discuss the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling. You might even begin a family composting project at home, giving your child the opportunity to apply what they’re learning in the "Bella Green Team" initiative to real-world actions.

At home, you are an important partner in fostering your child’s growth and development. By engaging with these topics in everyday life, you’re helping your child make meaningful connections to their studies and build a lifelong love of learning.

  • Leader in Me Program:

This month, our scholars are diving into important leadership concepts from The Leader In Me program. We will focus on celebrating differences, emphasizing the value of diversity and learning to appreciate what makes each of us unique. Scholars will also learn about creating third alternatives, encouraging them to think creatively and work together to find win-win solutions. Another key topic is the daily private victory, which helps scholars understand the importance of self-discipline and personal growth. Finally, we will focus on persevering through challenges, teaching resilience and persistence when faced with difficulties. We’re excited to see our scholars develop these valuable skills and grow as leaders!

  • Engage & Create: This Month’s Project

Over the next three weeks, our scholars will be participating in the "Bella Green Team" composting initiative during lunchtime, where they will actively contribute to sustainability efforts by sorting and collecting compost. This hands-on project not only teaches students the importance of reducing waste, but also encourages them to become stewards of the environment. In addition to composting, scholars will continue learning about sustainability and how to conserve resources within the classroom, such as reducing paper waste and conserving energy.

Alongside these environmental efforts, scholars will dive into exciting science topics, including sound, light, and magnetism. These topics will provide a foundation for their upcoming Science Showcase, which will take place during Open House on 5/15. The showcase will give scholars the opportunity to share what they’ve learned and demonstrate their understanding of these fascinating scientific concepts.

We are excited to see our scholars develop a deeper awareness of sustainability while exploring the wonders of science in preparation for their showcase!
