Middle School Team Newsletter

November 2024

  • Message from Middle School Team:

As we enter November, our middle school students are diving deeper into their studies and demonstrating wonderful growth in both their academic skills and personal development. This month, students will continue to engage in projects that connect classroom learning to the world around them, encouraging creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

With the holidays approaching, it’s also a great time to support students in managing their time and setting goals to stay on track. We appreciate your ongoing support and involvement as we work together to make this a successful year. Please reach out if you have any questions or need assistance—we’re here to help!

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - ELA

7th Grade students will discuss Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, sharing ideas clearly and responding thoughtfully to peers while considering diverse perspectives. They will analyze the novel using various media and create digital presentations. Writing tasks will include narrative summaries, argumentative essays with evidence, and informative responses explaining key themes and character development.

As for 8th graders will continue reading The Tell-Tale Heart, analyzing key themes, character development, and figurative language. They will participate in group discussions, write argumentative and informative essays, and enhance their presentations with digital media.

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - Math

For 7th Grade Math, students are working on proportional relationships to solve real-world problems, focusing on finding unit rates and using ratios.

As for 8th graders, they will analyze and solve linear equations, including systems of equations, to understand the relationships between variables and apply these concepts to various mathematical scenarios.

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - History

7th Grade students will analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of Islamic civilizations during the Middle Ages. The focus will be on understanding how these structures shaped daily life, trade, and global connections.

8th Grade students will describe how the moral and political ideas of the Great Awakening contributed to the rise of revolutionary fervor in the American colonies, emphasizing how religious revival spurred demands for political change and resistance to British rule.

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - Science

For 7th Grade, students focused on substances are made of different types of atoms, which combine to form molecules. These molecules have unique physical and chemical properties that help identify and distinguish different substances.

As for 8th Grade, students are focusing on applying Newton's Third Law to design solutions for problems related to the motion of two colliding objects, integrating concepts from physical science and technology.

  • Community Service/Leader in Me:

Students will learn to "Begin With the End in Mind" by creating personal mission statements that guide their decisions and actions. Through Habit 2 of the 7 Habits, they will develop a vision for their future and make choices aligned with their mission. Key vocabulary includes "default/design," "personal mission statement," and "alignment," helping students understand how intentional planning leads to success.

  • Projects:

Middle school students have organized a food can drive to support the YMCA at Camp Pendleton. They will be promoting the drive by going around to different classes to share information about the initiative and provide a list of suggested donation items. Additionally, students have created vibrant banners displayed throughout the school to raise awareness and encourage participation. This effort not only aims to collect essential non-perishable food items but also fosters a sense of community and teamwork among students.

  • Upcoming Dates to Remember

When your child is absent from school, enroll them in Independent Study. We are here to support them with the classwork that they are missing. This will prevent them from falling behind. It's an easy straightforward process, and assignments can be completed either at home or upon their return to school. Please send your request via email to: IS@bellamentecharter.org.

During our November Conference, please bring your child with you for a student led Conference.

Turn in any permission/donation slips for Catalina island trip.
