In our Primary classrooms during August and September, we are immersing our scholars in Montessori Grace and Courtesy lessons, emphasizing respectful interactions, polite greetings, and the use of kind words to foster a peaceful environment. Alongside this, our Practical Life activities are enhancing independence and fine motor skills through tasks like pouring, spooning, sweeping, and caring for our space, instilling a sense of responsibility and concentration. We’ve also begun exploring the world around us, learning about the Earth, its continents, and distinguishing between living and non-living things, while introducing concepts of peace and respect for all living beings. In language, scholars are engaging with Montessori materials to explore letters and sounds, while in math, they are discovering basic number concepts and counting through hands-on activities. These foundational experiences are crucial for building a strong academic base and nurturing a respectful community.
As we embark on this school year, parents can play a vital role in supporting their child's Montessori journey at home. Encourage independence by allowing your child to take on age-appropriate responsibilities, such as dressing themselves, setting the table, or caring for plants. Create a prepared environment by organizing spaces with accessible materials that spark curiosity and invite exploration.
Foster a love for learning through hands-on activities—consider cooking together, gardening, or engaging in simple science experiments. Offer opportunities for open-ended play, where your child can explore their interests freely.
Practice Grace and Courtesy at home by modeling respectful communication, taking turns, and using kind words. These habits reinforce what they learn in the classroom.
Finally, read together daily, selecting books that ignite their imagination and curiosity about the world. Your involvement and support at home will greatly enhance their learning experience and help cultivate a sense of community and belonging.
We’re excited to share that our students are participating in the Leader In Me program, which helps them become effective leaders. This month, they are focusing on three important areas: leading themselves and others by taking responsibility for their actions and building positive relationships; embracing a growth mindset by viewing challenges and mistakes as opportunities for growth; and leading their own learning by setting personal goals and taking charge of their education. You can support these concepts at home by discussing leadership, resilience, and the importance of setting goals. Together, we can help our children become confident leaders!
At the beginning of the year, students participate in "Getting to Know You" activities. This encourages each child to share something about themselves through art, storytelling, or presentations. Students create works that highlight their interests, family, and unique qualities. As they share their work with peers, they build connections, foster friendships, and develop a sense of community within the classroom. This project not only helps everyone learn more about each other but also promotes respect and appreciation for their diverse backgrounds.
