  • Exploring Knowledge: This Month’s Academic Journey

Our scholars are settling into their Montessori classroom routines and adapting to the rhythm of the year ahead. The beginning of the school year is a wonderful time of growth and exploration!

In Language and Math, students are reviewing essential skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and place value tailored to their individual abilities. They’ve also started practicing with the Waseca Reading Program, known as "Rainbow Drawers," and have been diving into the world of nouns. We encourage you to connect with your child’s teacher to discover ways you can support their math and reading skills at home. Soon, our scholars will embark on the exciting journey of Narrative Writing!

As a reminder, please ensure your child brings their Chromebook to school fully charged each day. This is crucial for their participation in programs like Lexia, Study Island, and for assessments.

  • Home Learning Adventures: Montessori Style

As we embark on this new school year, we invite you to engage deeply with your child's learning journey in a Montessori-inspired way. Our scholars are exploring foundational skills in both Language and Math, reviewing key concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and place value tailored to their unique abilities.

You can support their learning at home by incorporating everyday activities that reinforce these concepts. For instance, involve them in cooking to practice measurements and fractions, or play games that require counting and basic operations.

In Language, your child is using the Waseca Reading Program, "Rainbow Drawers," to enhance their reading skills. Encourage reading together at home and discuss the stories to build comprehension. Ask your child about nouns and how they are used in their favorite books.

As we prepare to dive into Narrative Writing, consider prompting your child to share stories from their day or create imaginative tales together. This practice will boost their confidence and creativity.

By fostering these connections, you’re not just supporting their education—you’re partnering in their journey of discovery and growth. Thank you for being an essential part of our learning community!

  • Leader in Me Program:

We’re excited to kick off the Leader in Me Program this August and September! Our scholars will be busy creating Classroom Mission Statements, where they’ll outline their collective goals and values, fostering a sense of community and purpose within their classrooms.

Students will also define Leadership Roles, helping them recognize and embrace their individual strengths while learning to collaborate effectively with their peers. Throughout this journey, they will explore important concepts such as being proactive, practicing "Pause and Plan," and adopting a "Think Win-Win" mindset. These skills will empower our scholars to take initiative, consider multiple perspectives, and work towards solutions that benefit everyone.

  • Engage & Create: This Month’s Project

As part of our Cultural Studies program, scholars will engage with the Montessori First Great Lesson: The Story of the Universe. This immersive experience will ignite a profound curiosity about the cosmos, focusing on celestial bodies such as the sun, moon, planets, and beyond.

In this special project, we will narrow our exploration to our home planet, Earth. Our journey will begin with a deep dive into the Layers of the Earth, where students will investigate the structural complexity of our planet. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and creative projects, scholars will uncover the mysteries of the Earth's crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core.
