In February, our Primary scholars will learn about amphibians, focusing on the life cycle of a frog. They will also learn more about the continents of Africa and Australia and the unique animals that can be found there. Scholars will continue practicing the letter sounds and blending sounds to read words. In math, students will compare numbers using the words greater than and less than, important math concepts for first grade readiness. An example is 3 is less than 5.
From the age of three through the age of six, children are focused on being independent as they explore their environment through their senses. Fostering their independence at home will help build their self-esteem. You can do this by having your child take ownership of their routines, such as getting ready for bed or packing their lunch for school. You can ask guiding questions and let them do the work. Your child can also learn to tie their own shoes and zip or button their own jackets. They will be proud of what they can do by themselves.
Building with blocks is another great way for your child to explore with their senses. Building blocks develop dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and finger strength. These are essential skills for writing, drawing, and even playing musical instruments. When building with blocks, your child is using their imagination while testing their capabilities and exploring creatively.
If you are looking for an opportunity for your child to have building block experiences, The Mission branch of the Oceanside Library has LEGO Brick Building every Friday in February from 3:00 to 4:00.
In the Leader in Me program this month, we will focus on important character-building lessons that help our scholars develop essential social and emotional skills. We’ll explore "Developing Relationships," emphasizing the value of building positive connections with others. This lesson will be followed by "Thinking Win-Win," which teaches scholars how to approach situations with a mindset that benefits everyone involved. We’re excited to see the growth in our scholars as they practice these important life skills!
In February, our scholars will learn about The first President of the United States of America, George Washington. Washington helped create the rules and ideas for how the government works. He was a strong leader who set an example for others to follow!
