March 2025

  • Message from Middle School Team:

As we approach the upcoming parent conferences from March 12-14, we kindly ask that students attend with their parents to ensure a meaningful and productive conversation about their progress. Please mark your calendars, and remember, it’s important for students to be present during these conferences. We look forward to discussing your child’s growth and goals for the rest of the school year.

Thank you for your continued support!

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - ELA

    7th Grade:

Students are working on figurative language and word relationships, while analyzing how authors present different perspectives in texts. They will examine how words and phrases impact meaning and tone, as well as identify the author’s point of view and how it influences the text.

    8th Grade:

Students are focusing on figurative and nuanced word meanings and developing their ability to cite strong textual evidence to support analysis. They will work on understanding complex texts, making inferences, and explaining how language shapes meaning.

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - Math

    7th Grade:

Students are working through Reveal Math, focusing on expressions and equations, where students learn to apply properties of operations to simplify expressions and solve multi-step problems involving rational numbers.

    8th Grade:

Students are studying functions in Reveal Math. They will compare different functions, interpret function equations, and analyze graphs to understand relationships between variables in real-world contexts.

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - Social Studies

    7th Grade:

Students are exploring the reunification of China under the Tang Dynasty and examining the spread of Buddhism in China, Korea, and Japan. They will analyze how political stability under the Tang contributed to cultural and religious expansion across East Asia.

    8th Grade:

Students are analyzing the westward expansion of the American people from 1800 to the mid-1800s, focusing on the different migration paths, economic opportunities, and the challenges settlers faced. This includes discussions on Native American displacement, the Gold Rush, and the impact of Manifest Destiny.

  • ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ - Science

    7th Grade:

Students are analyzing energy distribution in Earth's systems to identify patterns in the cycling of matter and energy flow within the Earth system. They will also develop models to describe how Earth's materials cycle and how energy drives these processes.

    8th Grade:

Students are investigating electric and magnetic forces by evaluating the design of devices that transfer energy. Through hands-on experiments and problem-solving activities, they will explore how these forces are used in real-world applications.

  • Community Service/Leader in Me:

Students are developing essential leadership and communication skills through the following lessons:

    • Seek to Be Understood – Practicing active listening and clear communication to express thoughts effectively.
    • Presentation Skills – Learning how to confidently present ideas with clarity and purpose.
    • Celebrating Differences – Recognizing and appreciating diverse perspectives to build a respectful and inclusive community.

These lessons help students strengthen their ability to collaborate, communicate, and lead with empathy.

  • Projects:

In this middle school science project, students will research the Jurassic period and create informative posters highlighting key facts about dinosaurs, their environment, and prehistoric life. As a hands-on activity, they will make dinosaur footprints using clay, exploring the size and shape of different species' tracks. This project integrates research, creativity, and tactile learning to enhance their understanding of paleontology and Earth's history.

In this middle school math project, students will design a farmer’s market business using linear equations to model costs, pricing, and profits. They will choose products to "sell," set prices, and determine expenses such as rent and supplies. Using linear equations, students will calculate total costs, revenue, and profit margins, creating graphs to analyze their business performance. This hands-on project connects real-world financial literacy with algebra, helping students understand how math applies to everyday economic decisions.
