In January, our scholars are diving into a variety of exciting topics! In their Continent Study, they will explore the rich diversity of Asia, learning about its people, animals, plants, and geography. Scholars will also discover the traditions of Lunar New Year.
In Writing, students will focus on the Informative/Biography writing process, researching famous Americans to prepare for the upcoming Wax Museum Day in February. They will also learn about Martin Luther King Jr., his legacy, and his significant impact on the Civil Rights Movement. This will deepen their understanding of equality and justice as they reflect on how his work continues to influence society today.
In Math, scholars will continue developing their understanding of Geometry, specifically identifying quadrilaterals and partitioning shapes into equal pieces. They'll also keep working on mastering key math concepts related to Operations and Algebraic Thinking.
To support your child’s learning at home in a Montessori way, try exploring topics through hands-on activities that encourage independence. For the Asia study, you can look at maps, books, or objects from different cultures to help your child learn about Asia’s people, animals, and geography. You could also create a project together to make the learning more meaningful. For Lunar New Year, involve your child in preparing a special meal or learning about the traditions, allowing them to take an active role. In Writing, encourage your child to research Martin Luther King Jr. and create a simple timeline or project about his life and impact. In Math, use everyday items around the house to practice identifying shapes and working with numbers, helping your child make real-world connections. These activities allow your child to learn through exploration, creativity, and hands-on experiences, which are key to Montessori learning.
This month in Leader In Me, scholars will focus on important leadership skills. They will learn about Accountability Partners, understanding the value of supporting each other in achieving goals. The focus will then shift to Building Character, where students will explore traits that help them become strong, responsible individuals. Finally, they will discuss Delivering Quality Results, learning how to set high standards, and take pride in their work. These lessons will help foster leadership and personal growth in each student.
In preparation for Wax Museum Day in February, students will learn how to write an informational biography about a famous American of their choice. They will research their selected individual’s life, accomplishments, and impact, and use this information to create a presentation for the Wax Museum. Alongside their writing, scholars will also engage in special art projects inspired by their exploration of Asia, allowing them to connect their creativity with their studies. These activities will help students develop research, writing, and presentation skills while also deepening their understanding of both history and art.
