We're diving into the RARE Writing Process as scholars continue their Narrative Writing journey, getting ready for their Publishing Party! They'll explore how to use Adjectives to add detail to their Stories.
In Math, we’re introducing Multiplication and practicing Skip Counting. We’ll also solve Simple Word Problems and explore Measurement by comparing Length, Weight, and Volume in hands-on ways.
This month’s big adventure is the Second Great Lesson: Life on Earth! Scholars will learn about Land, Water, and Air, explore pumpkins with a Pumpkin Investigation, and discover the world of Vertebrates and Invertebrates, focusing on the 5 Vertebrate Groups.
To nurture your child's writing journey, invite them to observe their surroundings and describe everyday objects or experiences using rich adjectives. Incorporate multiplication and skip counting into daily activities—count items during snack preparation or while setting the table to foster practical math skills. For example, they might count out how many plates, forks, or glasses are needed for each family member.
Consider going on a nature walk where your child can connect with the environment. Encourage them to notice different landforms, bodies of water, and the air around them. Discuss the plants and animals you encounter, exploring the fascinating world of vertebrates and invertebrates together.
Scholars will focus on identifying what they can control through their Circle of Control and determining What Matters Most in their lives. They’ll also create and begin living by their own Personal Mission Statements, empowering them to take ownership of their learning and goals.
This October, our students are embarking on an engaging Pumpkin Investigation Project! This hands-on experience will focus on important math concepts, including estimation, weight, and graphing, as students measure and analyze pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. They’ll also explore the life cycle of a pumpkin, discovering how it grows from seed to harvest.
To enhance their descriptive language skills, students will use adjectives to describe the pumpkins, fostering creativity and vocabulary development. We’re excited to see the connections our students will make between math, science, and language during this fun and informative project!
