Spring Reopening Letter #5 4/23

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Bella Mente is meant to have scholars on campus! Even through the masks we can see the smiling faces of staff and scholars. It is a joy to see students everyday in drop off and pick up. If you have any questions, ideas, or concerns regarding our transition to hybrid and distance learning please contact your child’s teacher or Dr. McQuestion, both would be happy to hear from you!

I wanted to provide you an update because a lot has been happening. As you have probably seen, California continues to have a high vaccination rate coupled with a low COVID-19 case rate. The Governor has said that he believes we will be able to open the state up by mid-June, including reopening schools.

We are currently planning to open the 2021-2022 school year in the fall with a regular full-day, on-campus learning for all students. We will continue to follow federal, state, and local guidance, which may include physical distance requirements and facial coverings. The school will send families a school calendar and schedule

To date, the state legislature has not announced whether students will have the option to learn via distance learning next year. As the conditions continue to change, hopefully for the better, we may get new guidance.

As we plan for next year, Bella Mente Academies may receive what is called AB 86 Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO) grant funding. This state funding is intended to help school districts address the learning recovery needs we know many students are experiencing as a result of the pandemic.

In order to receive these funds, we need to create an ELO Plan and would like your input and feedback on the plan through this survey

ELO grant funds may be used for:

  • Extending instructional learning time (more school days, summer school)

  • Accelerating progress to close learning gaps (tutoring, recovery programs)

  • Integrated pupil supports (mental health services, after-school programs)

  • Community learning hubs (access to high-speed internet, or academic support)

School staff training (engaging families, addressing social-emotional health of students)

We hope you will share your opinions and priorities on options developed by the school. Please complete the survey by Tuesday, April 27 at 5pm.

Thank you again for your support and patience during this transition. This is an exciting time, and we are even more excited about the future ahead!
