Week 5: 9/14 – 9/18/2020

Dear Bella Mente Families,

What a busy week it has been at Bella Mente! Teachers, students, and parents are becoming more familiar with online learning. Our teachers spent two afternoons analyzing the data collected from MAPs scores. You might notice some live meet schedule changes as we pivot to meet the needs of our students. What we have noticed so far is that most students are making forward progress from our last assessment in the winter of 2019. Great news! Your teachers will be reviewing in detail all MAPs results with you at our parent conferences next month. Can you believe it, we are going to be in the month of October in a couple of weeks!! 2020 is flying by!

Ms. Eka Zoss did an amazing job at our first Parent Workshop regarding Emotional Health! We will be offering a repeat workshop on Wednesday, 9/23/2020 @ 5pm for English and 6pm for Spanish. We found that some families were unable to join the Zoom meeting due to technical difficulties. We will also be offering a Parent Workshop on Wednesday, 9/30/2020 @ 5pm for English and 6pm for Spanish. The focus of the workshop will be teaching handwriting through the lens of Montessori. One of our wonderful teachers, Ms. Kathleen Decker, will be our presenter. We will also be starting Answers with McQuestion in October.

Please remember that is is very important for your child to attend the live meetings of instruction. Attendance is vital for student progress to be made. If you are having any technical difficulties please contact us at helpdesk@bellamentecharter.org.

As always, we at Bella want to thank you for your trust, patience, and kindness as we work together to make this a great year for all!

Enjoy your weekend and stay safe and healthy!

The greatest sign of success for a teacher… is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist. – Maria Montessori

  • Please make sure your student(s) are logging in through Clever and not going directly to their Google Classroom or Google Meet with their teacher.
  • We heard your suggestions and purchased Zoom, which we will slowly roll out over the next few weeks. Zoom offers better security and has more tools for teacher instruction.
  • Student emails are for logging in only, they are not set up for communication. Please contact your teacher through Clever, Google Classroom, or email from a parent.

Montessori Musings

When people think of a Montessori Education one of the first thought is a room full of beautiful materials that make subjects like math visible and concrete.  When adults see them demonstrated for the first time they often think, “I wish I learned math this way.”  Now that we are facing distance learning, we feel the loss of these materials.  However, we have to remember that Montessori herself didn’t begin teaching with the beautifully constructed materials we have today, but instead things around her.  So what do we have at home today that can help students make math visible and hands-on?

Here are some ideas to try:
