Week 35: 05/17 – 05/21/2021

Dear Bella Mente Families,

What a great week at Bella! We had our second virtual Open House! It was great to see the family participation. I don’t think there has ever been a time in history where parents, students, and teachers had to work together as closely as this past year. You did it and you have done an amazing job.

I have to admit that I am having a lot of fun planning for a “typical” 21/22 school year! There have been some questions about next year and our plans. We are planning on a normal school year. We will be following the guidelines from our local health officials, but as Covid-19 numbers continue to drop our hope goes up for normalcy!

As I watch our scholars come to school in the morning and afternoon I am so proud to see that most scholars are following Bella Mente’s Dress Code! As I tell them how great they look I can see the Bella Pride in their eyes . Just a reminder that Dress Code will be fully enforced for the 21/22 school year. Please follow the link for our Dress Code information on our webpage. Dress Code The Uniform Store has amazing quality clothing if you want something to last. Also, remember to check out our local stores such as Old Navy, Target, and Walmart this summer as they have a large selection of uniforms in Bella colors. As a side note, if you refer a scholar and they attend Bella, your scholar will receive one uniform. Share the word about Bella and get a uniform!

A few parents have shared concerns about their scholars progress and if they should be retained or referred to special education. My opinion is that we should wait to see where they are once we are back in school. We are using the funds from the Expanded Learning Grant to focus on re-engagement and remediation. Children are resilient and I believe that we will all be amazed at how quickly they will be right where they need to be. In addition, research has demonstrated that retainment is rarely a positive choice for children. I would rather offer the support that we have planned and monitor their progress. Please remember that all students have experienced a similar life event and educational organizations are ready to assist them in their learning!

One more great thing to share with you is scholars with a chromebook will be able to keep it over the summer, if returning to Bella next year. Scholars with an internet connection will stay live over the summer. Lexia, ALEKS, and IXL will be live throughout the summer. You will be receiving information from your teacher as to the amount of time they should spend on each program during the week. You will be amazed at how much progress your scholars will make during the summer weeks. Great news!

One more reminder – Masks stay on until June 15th!

Dates to remember for next week:
Wednesday, May 26th, Ms. Marter and Ms. LaBlond will be presenting a parent workshop on preparing your scholar for high school.
Friday, May 28th, is a non-school day (Memorial Day Weekend)
Monday, May 31, is a non-school day (Memorial Day Weekend)

As always, we at Bella want to thank you for your trust, patience, and kindness as we work together to make this a great year for all!

Enjoy and stay safe and healthy!
