Week 22: 02/01 – 02/05/2021

Friday, February 12th, and Monday, February 15th are non-student days.

Dear Bella Mente Families,

As we move into 2021, it seems challenges continue to impact our lives. I have been able to talk with many parents this week and I know that many of our families are faced with hardships. Some of our families have lost loved ones due to Covid-19 or have family members who are very sick. We have families struggling to work and assist students with virtual learning. I don’t think anyone has not been touched by this pandemic in one way or another.

What I have also observed is resilience, courage, empathy, self-sacrifice, and positivity in the face of adversity. I am honored to work with Bella Mente families and staff as we forge forward to meet the needs of our students.

Some of you have asked the big question of when we will be opening to in-class instruction. I understand the confusion when we listen to the news and it seems as if guidelines change daily. In my experience, so far that is not far from the truth. Those in leadership positions in our state and country are trying to make decisions in a situation that they have never experienced. I encourage you to attend our monthly board meetings to stay informed. We are fortunate to have an Executive Director who seeks out all stakeholder input and presents it to the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors then endeavors to make informed decisions based on government guidelines, student needs, and always safety for students and staff.

I found a picture of students learning virtually via radio instruction in 1937. At that time Chicago schools were shut down due to a Polio outbreak. Education continues one way or another!

I want to thank those of you who have shared ideas, concerns, and offered support. I want to give a shout out to our staff who work tirelessly to meet the needs of our students. They demonstrate creativity and such care for student learning!

Our teachers have been finishing up MAPs testing. Thank you Mr. Hank for assisting with that. It is so important to have assessment results to inform instruction. We have some activities for parents next week. Tuesday evening is our Board of Directors meeting, which I encourage you to attend. Thursday we have Answers with McQuestion. We will be discussing the new Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) template. Please click on this link to review the template. Our Executive Director will also be joining us to answer questions you may have. See below for Zoom links and times.

As always, we at Bella want to thank you for your trust, patience, and kindness as we work together to make this a great year for all!

Enjoy and stay safe and healthy!
